3D technology seems to have a firm future in television, and most certainly in sports broadcasting.

Sky offer 3D packages for TV, film and sports, and many pubs are now offering 3D showings of sports matches across the UK. Sky even have a 3D pub and venue finder on their website. Virgin Media are now joining the 3D revolution and today announced that they will be broadcasting the French Open in 3D, starting this Sunday May 22nd.

It's pretty impressive that they can have live events broadcast in 3D, rather than the painstaking processes in making 3D CGI masterpieces like Avatar, done by animation experts with plenty of maya training and expertise.

It's a great way to watch a sports game, you can see exactly what's happening without being constrained to two dimensions and one point of view. It's certainly a welcome advancement.
